The Feline Long-suffering Look

black cat with tape on forehead

Jelly Bean exhibits the feline long-suffering look after I've put tape on his forehead.

This is what he gets for patiently supervising me in all I do in my studio, a scrap of tape disrespectfully stuck to his forehead. Those are not happy whiskers.

Actually, I think he’s trying to hold back a laugh, or at least a kitty smile.

And he was trying to walk on my work table while I was framing something and that is one of the times when kitties are not permitted on the table, yes, really, not permitted.

Bernadette, this photo reminds me of a story I read about Salvador Dali. He was painting and he found that if he taped a small piece of white paper on the end of his nose, he could get the light exactly right. Someone came into his studio to do an interview, and only after the person left did Dali remember that he had something taped on the end of his nose. He realized that the interviewer would have an impression of Dali that was *more* eccentric than he really was. The overall feeling I get from the photo of Mr. Jellybean is very similar to the feeling Dali described. Dignity is so important, to cats and to people, and it’s so easy to lose.
