No Box Too Small

Mewsette and Jelly Bean curl in an endless circle of black cat.

If you look really closely in the lower right under Jelly Bean’s shoulder, you’ll see a tiny little bit of a small flat box. This is all it takes for one or more kitties to curl up in a spot on the floor.

I wondered why this spot was chosen for communal bathing and napping, considering it’s right in the narrow spot between cabinet and shelves in the kitchen where I either go out the back door or down the basement steps. It wasn’t sunny and warm, there was no warm spot there, I could find no reason for this until JB curled a little closer to Mewsette and realized it was the little flat box left over from a half-case of 3 oz. cat food cans, sized something like 10″ x 12″ x 1″ deep. Not either one of them alone would fit there, but that’s nothing to worry about.

Synchronized cat boxing! I give it a ten!

  2. Curling up on a box – just one of the little things that make kitties so special!

Chris, I’ve found it’s a handy method of cat-herding! When one does something, the others do as well, so when they all pile up on my desk, I strategically place a box near but out of my way and they all gravitate to it. Of course, any box that ends up on the floor is fair game too, and I’m glad I can step pretty lightly around this little house!

  3. Ah, what a cute photo! Love the black kitties!

  4. Too cute! Love this black cat circle 🙂

Bernadette, this is such a fine photo! And you’re so right — 2 cats can fit where 1 cat can’t.
