The Perfect Container

cat in basket

This fits me perfectly.

Actually, it took some effort to stuff his butt into the basket, sit down and look natural. I had been sorting greeting cards and envelopes for an order using the basket, but in the end it’s all about Giuseppe.

I think he’s been vigilant when I start packing things because, soon, he knows we’ll send a package to Mlle Daisy Marguerite with a special letter and a few trinkets which he has chosen, and he’s afraid he’ll miss the action. As if I’d pack it up and send it off without him!

In fact, as my operatically melodramatic Giuseppe tends to wring his little paws and wander around talking about things, he occasionally develops one white whisker, usually on the right side of his face. When he was young he developed two, one on each side, but most of the time through the years he has been a clean, youthful black. I think despite all of Mlle’s protestations, he’s been concerned about their long-distance relationship, the move to the city, and that little twit named Cream Cheese or Butter or—was it Yogurt? Who ever heard of a cat named Yogurt? Something must be done.

  1. Mlle Daisy Marguerite says:

Giuseppe, you are a passionate man. How can help but be moved by your
emotions? Be still and rest my love.
You have the heart of a poet, the vision of an artist, the song of a musician. Oh, how I
    love music. Mr. Sunshine
can never understand the emotions that are in your beautiful feline soul.
Yes, be still and know that your Mlle rests here in Kingston dreaming of her
    true love Giuseppe Verdi.
    Daisy.

  2. Wazeau says:

Love the expression on his face as he sits in his basket.

  3. Mlle Daisy Marguerite says:

    Oh Giuseppe…. purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Meow.
The sun is shining in through the old lace curtains
and I am thinking of you far away in Carnegie. Are
    you having a sunbath too?
    Your love, Mlle. Daisy.

    • Giuseppe says:

My love, I must admit I was so overwrought with frustration this morning–yes, lovely sunshine, lace curtains, warm sunny spots that I’d share with you if you were near–but I was actually in solitary confinement for being, well, a little aggressive with my siblings. What can I say, my emotions carry me away and a simple wrestling match and chase becomes something it wasn’t meant to be. Perhaps someday I’ll play the role of Othello.

Don’t be afraid, my sweet! I would never hurt you, you could never be as much of a jerk as Mr. Sunshine who started it by cruelly making fun of me! Oh, they just don’t understand!

I am calmly keeping mom’s lap warm now as it is chilly today despite the sun. I will work on a little anger management.

I hope you are having a lovely day, Mlle, and I won’t even be angered by any thought of Buttermilk! I know he could not possibly interest you.

Lots of purrs for my love, from Giuseppe Verdi

  4. Giuseppe looks like one of those wind-up toys, where you turn the handle and a cat pops up out of the box! Very cute.

    • animalartist says:

Chris, Giuseppe thinks of himself as dignified and mature, never cute, but his expression and posture is so darned cute I had to take his photo! I was laughing at him stuffing his butt in the basket, and he’s wondering why I’m laughing.

  5. Mlle Daisy Marguerite says:

    Giuseppe my love,
His name is Yogurt but Mom calls hims
    Pumpkin. I prefer Pumpkinhead.
Giuseppe, please do not worry…. don’t you
know my heart belongs to you and you alone?
You are my love, my desire, my Prince Charming.

And a basket for moi???? Oh, be still my pounding feline
    heart.

Nuzzles and purrrrrrrrrrs from your Daisy Marguerite.

    • My Daisy, I wish you weren’t so far away! To think of another black cat in your sacred space…it’s probably good I’m not so close! I think I am considerably larger than the scrawny little runt, and I’ve practiced my technique on my brothers.

I’ll just have to be patient, my sweet love.

You are so beautiful. I long to nuzzle your sweet cheekbones. I am yours.

I will make a package to send to you myself! My silly mom finds too many other things to do.

Until then, I am your passionate love, your young and handsome Giuseppe Verdi sending nuzzles and purrrrrs to you.
